Chondrodysplasia
Chondrodysplasia is a parent Health Watch page. It explains the larger condition family, then points owners to the specific subtype pages that carry different genetics, signs, testing needs, and owner expectations.
Breeds Affected: Alaskan Malamute; Havanese
Breed Risk Note: Use this parent page when breed-level chondrodysplasia is supported but the exact subtype should not be overclaimed. Use subtype pages when CDPA or ITGA10-related evidence is specific enough.
The Idiot-Proof Explanation
Chondrodysplasia means the dog’s cartilage and bones do not grow in normal proportions. Sometimes people see “short legs” and think cute. Sometimes the dog is dealing with crooked limbs, uneven growth, joint strain, pain, or a breeding problem nobody should be hand-waving away like it is a quirky haircut.
However, the exact subtype still matters. One label can hide very different inheritance patterns, screening options, severity, cost, and long-term care. Because of that, breed pages should use the most specific supported condition instead of stopping at the umbrella term.
