And I’d say, not just a Rottweiler, but any other working dog. I see so many people with this level of dogs who have no idea what they have stepped into – it breaks my heart. Because when things go south, as the author iterates again and again, the dog is going to pay for it, even though it is never the dog’s fault.
The book is right on, no bs, written with love and compassion. This is the best book related to dogs and human responsibility I’ve ever read. This book needs to be mandatory for anyone planning to get a Rottweiler puppy. It sets all correct expectations and takes away common cop-outs like “things will just work out”.
It doesn’t just give you information – it’s relatively easy to get novadays – but it gives you a mindset, a model, a feeling that you need to match in order to judge if you’re a good fit for a Rottweiler. I am not a good fit, and that’s ok. Rottweilers are not for everyone.
This book will help people who a good match to prepare and be better handlers and partners.
If you read it to the end, and you still go “Hell, yeah!” to the idea of getting a Rottweiler, you’ve got to do it, you’re ready.
